Join our mission to plant 10,000 native trees at Freedom Land. Donate ₹300 to plant a tree or volunteer for Bhoomi Seva. Combat climate change with rooted action.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
Thousand together, is a project that aims to bring thousand people together to help re-green the land through various environmental projects. Our land in Doddaballapur is in a drought prone area that has experienced loss of green forests and drying of water sources. We decided to collaborate and work together to experience the joy of re-greening our campus. Our work is more than just tree planting. We work to deeply nurture our land:
The Healing Circle’s Green Initiatives
As a grassroots campaign we broadly undertake the following projects:
Afforestation
Water conservation
Natural farming
Renewable energy
Sustainable architecture
All these pillars come together to nurture a complex biodiverse ecosystem.
About Our Current Dream: A Living Classroom
Do you dream of a forest floor where children learn under the whispers of ancient trees?
A place where childhood runs barefoot, dreams wildly, and breathes freely? At Freedom Land—a 34-acre campus for the Creative School and healing retreats near Bangalore, Karnataka—we’re planting 10,000 native trees by 2030 to energise solutions for climate change. We are expanding our existing forest cover by planting 1,650 trees every year from 2025-2030.
Over all Goal: Raise ₹35 lakh (≈ $42,000)
Current Goal: Raise 5 Lakhs by 15th August 2025 for the first year afforestation drive.
The power of collective effort far exceeds the sum of the individual efforts. Let us come together to take the next steps. If a thousand of us come together and contribute whatever possible, we can manifest a world we have dreamed of for our children.
Sustainable Planting Timeline: Balancing Trees & Water
To ensure ecological balance and water sustainability, we’ll plant 10,000 native trees over 6 years (2025–2030), prioritizing drought-resistant species, native species and monsoon alignment. This will help us ensure higher survival rates and set up the trees for future success. A percentage of funds will be invested in irrigation structures.
"The person who plants a tree, knowing they will never sit in its shade, has already understood the meaning of life."
- Tagore
Our Impact: From Barren to Biodiverse
In 2019, this land was barren—stripped of life by deforestation and contant JCB tilling.
As part of our afforestation efforts, over the past several years, along with our children we have planted over 15,000 trees and our goal is to have more than 50,000 trees and shrubs planted over time.

Today, thanks to 15,000+ trees planted by volunteers, Sangha Members under the visionary leadership of our founders Jayashree and Ashok:
50+ bird species sing here.
Butterflies and bees came back.
Children play and breathe in a clean environment.
The groundwater levels have increased significantly due to plantation and creation of natural ponds.
the soil quality has improved exponentially to now support natural farming efforts.
Why This Dream? Karnataka Needs Forests Now !
Guilt won’t save the planet—action will. Here’s what your support does:
Cools villages: Forests lower local temps by 2–5°C.
Revives the soil and increases the fertility in this semi-arid region.
Teaches kids: Our students show deeper ecological awareness.
Increases ground water level and decreases soil erosion.
Creates livelihoods: Our farm team stands strong employing people from the villages nearby.
We reject doom. Instead, we empower.

How Forests Grow: Togetherness Creates Life
A forest isn’t just trees—it’s a community:
- 🌳 Trees “talk”: Roots share nutrients via fungal networks.
- 🌧️ Microclimate magic: Forests attract rain, cool air, and revive soil.
- 🐝 Biodiversity boost: Every tree hosts 200+ species over its lifetime.
In the book The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben shares the science of how trees live in social communities and take care of each other by sharing nutrients (carbon, nitrogen) and chemical signals through fungal pathways — the wood wide web. These ancient communities of trees – our forests — is what the biodiversity of our world depends on. We need to take a two-fanged approach — protect our existing forest life lines and create more forest cover that can translate into revival of soil, water tables, and biodiversity.
Life Cycle of a Tree
Year 1: A sapling finds a new home→ survives monsoons.
Year 3: First blossoms → bees and birds return.
Year 5: Child climbs its branches → memories take root.
Year 20: Absorbs 1 ton of CO₂ → legacy begins.
Transparency Promise
90% funds → Trees/soil (saplings, labor, 5-year care).
10% funds → Transportation, Education (workshops, signage, volunteers’ needs).

Be part of planting 10,000+ trees by 2030!
_We believe in the power of community math: “We are the big, when we come together.”_
This tree drive is thoughtfully planned as it grows only native species, with community care built in.
Why this matters:
Kalkunte is drought-prone, semi-arid region which suffered loss of its natural vegetation
Trees are planted year by year (1650/year) to keep water use sustainable
Long-term goal: ₹35L | This year’s goal: ₹5L by Aug 15
